If you believe, as I do, there is more wrong with medicine than there is right read this book just to open up the possibilities to discovering why you are sick, not just masking the problem... An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I picked this book up after doing some research on a decade old thyroid condition that MD's and NMD's have failed to resolve. After reading this, I understand why, it is not JUST a thyroid condition, but no one else was looking that deeply into it, so now I am self treating, and finding much better results. I will recommend this book to my relative that is a diabetic/bariatric patient, my chronic fibromyalgia friend, and the one who suffers with chronic migraines and epilepsy...Why? Because I believe he is on to something here, medicine has failed them too, but this might provide hope for them as it has me.

Someone else noted it was hard to follow and there are some typo's. Both true, but not distracting enough to prevent me from taking in the majority of the text and considering how to apply the information, even if it means re-reading here and there. I am a do it your self kind of person, if you want a laid out formula with step by step directions this book (alone) will not provide that for you, though there are many RX's provided if you can pick up on it. But if you are willing to read and use this to connect the dots as I did you may find it quite compelling and useful.

A really interesting book. Quite intriguing. The author seems both insane and genius - all in one )
I have an autoimmune disease and the info he provides on the subject is quite close to my own conclusions from personal experience, not just from what I have learnt from other authors.
The info he provides on osteoporosis is also innovative and my guess is he is right on most things connected to this topic.
The author make very bold statements on a lot of topics, including type I diabetes. Whether he is right...I guess only time will tell. But I don't think all his statements are in fact valid; at least one is not in my case. He advocates a zero-carb diet in winter. I have tried a ketogenic diet and boy!!! I'm not doing that ever again. Only after feeling its side effects, did I discover that it aggravates adrenal fatigue and that (particularly) women need a somewhat low amount of carbs in their diet to ensure hormonal balance.
He also advocates the use of certain supplements. After experimenting with various supplements I've come to restrict the list of "good" supplements to a very few, most of them based on whole food (like royal jelly) and not insulated substances; coQ10 for example has a very strong estrogenic impact in my case.
In conclusion, read this book with an open mind and a grain of salt as well! Some of the statements within may be very well valid, but some may not. It's up to you to decide to what extent are willing to experiment with his suggestions.
I just finished reading the version of this book. I recently started Dr. Kruse's "leptin reset", and so far, it really has changed my life. I've had a weight problem for most of my 68 years, and recently I completed a few rounds of the hCG diet, which resulted in a total loss of 92 pounds. Unfortunately, as is the experience of many after hCG, I've been unable to maintain my weight. Each time I've gotten to my goal weight, I've ended up gaining back 10 or 15 pounds after the round is over, even carefully following the instructions for transition and maintenance. If memory serves, I've repeated that scenario three times since arriving at my goal the first time. I was really at my wit's end when I found the leptin reset. I've been eating this way for two weeks, and now my weight is rock solid stable. I have zero cravings and very little hunger. As of two days ago, I've stopped eating lunch and, so far, am doing extremely well (not eating because I'm just not hungry until dinner time). This has been extremely easy, and the benefits began pretty much the minute I started.

I've also had problems with chronic fatigue, and recently, due to a death in my family, my stress levels have been pretty high, resulting in terrible insomnia. After two weeks on the leptin reset, my sleep is improving, and I have more energy most days. I'm looking forward to seeing how I'm doing after a month or two.

Aside from my own positive experience, I appreciate having a better understanding of leptin and the other factors Dr. Kruse covers in this book. I was already familiar with some of the concepts, but seeing how leptin is connected to so much physiological function other than appetite and weight was fascinating, and I've already found the information to be useful.

As far as editing - it's pretty bad. If the information in the book hadn't been so good, I would have docked my review one more star. When Dr. Kruse writes in his blog, I can forgive the sloppy editing and less-than-wonderful writing style, but with a book, I expect much better. Honestly, I wonder if he even had anyone edit his manuscript. I am a professional editor, and I've done some writing in the past. I would never have considered having anything published without thorough editing by another person. In my experience, it's just not possible to edit one's own work.

I believe it would be useful for Dr. Kruse to find someone to edit this book who has at least some understanding of the subject so that many sections could be stated more clearly. Not to mention the grammatical errors and wrong words here and there (using a word that would pass the spellchecker but incorrect in the text). Having such a poor presentation takes away from the credibility of the material, in my opinion.
This is an interesting book. Jack Kruse is obviously incredibly intelligent and much of the book is manageable, but parts are just beyond comprehension. I also found it frustrating that if you go to his website to reference something, you basically have to pay a lot of money for clarification/application. At this point, I keep wading through it, but honestly, I will likely make it with enough understanding to make it practical for changing my life. It's a shame as I saw his interview on Gaia TV which was great, but then I hit hte road blocks. Perhaps it is better suited all around to other medical people? Or as a medical school class? I'll post an update if I make it all the way through.
